Can I quote my father here? Considering the above referenced personnel, if you don't make this hit tonight, "you need your head examined". My dad would say that. "Brainless" was another one, whether it be a reference to one of my many human failings, or that of a fellow driver. But really - Larry Covelli with Patty Flaherty & Craig Kastelnik, all in town this week only? Sometimes the stars do align. Join us in air conditioned comfort. Milkie's on Elmwood is at the intersection of West Utica & Elmwood Avenue. 882-5881
The Upstate Express
Ronnie Corsaro - piano & arrangements Tim Clarke - trumpet Ricky Fleming - trombone Russ D'Alba & Kenny Kuriscak - saxophones Wayne Moose - bass yours truly - drum set
Rained out last week, but there's no sign of the evil precip this week... Ronnie's summer tradition begins in earnest. Skillfully orchestrated arrangements, inventive soloists, and music you can tap a toe to. A free concert series thanks to Ronnie's connections with the moneyed politicos... Please join us.
Laurie Bordonaro, vocals George Kane, guitar Wayne Moose, bass your correspondent, drum set
Laurie is fearless isn't she? It's now time to try something completely different. There is no breathing guitarist that is more sensitive than George Thomas Kane. And Wayne Moose is not only an accomplished bassist, but he does a mean impersonation of Opie Taylor. As an added bonus, the legendary Guy's Subs is strategically located on the very boundary of Russell Park. If you've made the trip to Mayberry, & you haven't stopped at Guy's, you've wasted a trip.
The Dave Scott Trio
Dave Scott keeps it real. He welcomes the challenge of leading a guitar trio. Think about that. No one else is comping for you, and the only other soloists are your bassist and your drummer (God help you...) And further, Dave never looks at a lead sheet to get him get through a tune. That's impressive. OK, it's easy for me to wax philosophic. I don't have to negotiate chord changes. But I've worked with world class musicians who need that music stand. Not Dave. He plays without a net. And that is musicianship.
Bobby Jones, piano Jerry Livingston, bass dh, drum set
