Hullo friends. Hope you see this in time to make your Tuesday plans...
Tuesday, 9/14 at Bobby McGee's 7:00 - 10:00 p.m.
Clay Jenkins, trumpet Chris Ziemba, piano Jeff Campbell
, bass your host, drum set
...because you don't want to miss one of the most unique and individual trumpet players on this round planet. Why the worn out "unique and individual" qualifiers? Because when I hear Clay, I can't hear his influences. We all know musicians who spend their formative years emulating their idols. And there's value in that. What's the cliche? "Good musicians borrow. Great musicians steal." But all skills being equal, a great musician is recognized as such by the strength of his or her individuality. And Clay Jenkins is the real deal - a mature artist with a singular musical voice. For this date at Bobby McGee's, Clay has invited his friend and colleague on the Eastman faculty, bassist Jeff Campbell, and another Eastman protege in pianist Chris Ziemba. Not bad company. And you are invited too. Hear swinging American music steeped in tradition, and set free by a creative musical spirit. Still at
Bobby McGee's, now
