Musically This Week Vol XIII, No 11

Hullo friends.  We're still there, till year's end so far as I know, or at least until our savior/investor/restaurateur emerges.  Mike Milkie tells me that there has been some renewed interest in buying the business, but as of this writing there is still no deal.  So we persevere, and continue to present the jazz artistry that you have come to expect after these twelve good years...

Tuesday, 11/23
at Bobby McGee's     7:00 - 10:00
Vince Ercolomento, tenor saxophone     Chris Ziemba, piano     Ben Thomas, bass     your host, drum set
...and Vince is a perfect example.  Unless you've driven to Rochester or caught him at the Lewiston Jazz festival, you've only heard Vince Ercolomento at Bobby McGee's.  To put it simply, Vince breathes fire.  His playing bespeaks his age and his influences.  A National Endowment of the Arts recipient and a student of the renown George Coleman, Vince is a fearless take-no-prisoners tenor player whose style and muse are straight out of the classic Blue Note catalogue.  So to save you the drive, we've asked Rochester to come to us.  We present Vince in the company of some highly regarded Eastman pedigree in Chris Ziemba and Ben Thomas.  Why not come and join us while the weather is easy and the venue is still ours to share?

Danny Hull Newsletter: Musically This Week Vol XIII, No 9

Hullo friends.  We have nothing new to report.  Negotiations to buy the business have gone silent.  Investors are skittish.  What we need is a well funded visionary who has his finger on the pulse of modern America.  The right business model can succeed even in this economy.  In fact, there's opportunity here.  The landlord is willing to talk.  Mike Milkie is willing to talk.  Care to own your very own jazz club?  (I mean, who wouldn't?)...

Tuesday, 11/9
at Bobby McGee's     7:00 - 10:00
Mike Moser, guitar     Ron Corsaro, piano     Dave Siegfried, bass     your host, drum set
Mike Moser has a new guitar, custom made to his individual specifications.
We're happy for him.
A musician of Mike's caliber deserves a world class instrument.  So in honor of his good fortune we've invited him to
share the love and lead a quartet of friends.
Mike, Ron Corsaro & Dave Siegfried have been doing some things together when their schedules align.  Ronnie is forever writing new arrangements and re-working old ones.  So this Tuesday seemed like the perfect time to air out some of Ronnie's gems and hear Mike's creative explorations on the guitar of his dreams.  Join us if you can?  We're still there -

Danny Hull Newsletter: Musically This Week Vol XIII, No 9

Hullo friends, listeners & kindred spirits.  Nothing new.  Negotiations are stalled.  But we're still open and keeping the torch lit, however low the flame.  And this Tuesday, being as that I have a preview show at MusicalFare Theatre (Cabaret), I have asked Kevin O'Brien & Babik to entertain our Savvy & Informed Listeners at Bobby McGee's.  And if Babik whets your appetite for Django Reinhardt inspired music, keep in mind that the Hot Club of Detroit will open the Hunt Real Estate Art of Jazz Series for the 2010-2011 Season at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery.  I shall return next Tuesday with some guests still to be identified and confirmed.  (It is Confirmation season isn't it?)

Hot Club of Detroit
The Hot Club of Detroit makes their first area appearance as part of the 20102011 Hunt Real Estate Art of Jazz Series at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery on Saturday, November 6, 2010, at 8 p.m. in the Gallery’s Auditorium.  A pre-concert film. Swing Guitar: The Genius of Django Reinhardt, begins at 7 p.m. in celebration of the gypsy jazz legend’s birthday centennial.
Seventy years after Django Reinhardt’s legendary Quintette du Hot Club de France featuring Stéphane Grappelli fused gypsy guitar with contemporary jazz, Hot Club of Detroit has added fresh influences—including Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Weather Report, and Chopin—to the classic “gypsy jazz” sound.  The result: “something retro and new, European and American, familiar and very unique” (Kalamazoo Gazette).  Led by the stirring fretwork of guitarist Evan Perri, with accordionist Julien Labro, saxophonist Carl Cafagna, guitarist Paul Brady, and bassist Andrew Kratzat, the group has been expanding musical horizons with each new recording for Mack Avenue Records and dazzling concert audiences from coast to coast.  For more information about Hot Club of Detroit, visit >www.hotclubofdetroit.com<.
Tickets are $25 for Albright-Knox Art Gallery Members and $29 for non-members, and can be purchased at the Gallery’s Admissions Desk or online at www.albrightknox.org/artofjazz The other performances this season are Charles Lloyd New Quartet on Sunday, January 30, 2011, at 4 p.m., Robert Glasper Trio on Sunday, March 20, 2011, at 3 p.m., and Pete Malinverni Trio on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at 8 p.m.
